A fatal accident this morning clogged southbound Interstate 65 traffic in northern Lebanon.

The ramp from I-65 southbound at the 141 mile marker to Lafayette Avenue was closed for hours but was reopened by 9:00 AM.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the fatal single-vehicle accident, which happened at about 4:50 a.m. this morning. Emergency officials said a woman who was thrown from the minivan involved in the crash was killed, and two other people were taken to Witham Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries. One other person was uninjured in the crash.

Officials said the four were college students on their way from Chicago to Ohio.

Emergency officials said the van was cut off in traffic by another car and forced onto the ramp. Officers are actively searching for the other vehicle allegedly involved, and if found that driver could face charges.

There is no indication alcohol was involved, but the The Boone County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team has been called to assist in this investigation.
