A fatal crash blocked westbound Interstate 70 traffic for hour’s near Plainfield yesterday afternoon.

Indiana State Police said an Oklahoma man, 36-year-old Steven Carl Akerman, was killed when the pickup truck he was driving slammed into the back of a semi tractor-trailer just before 5 p.m. yesterday,

The accident closed the westbound lanes of I-70 at Ind. 267 for about three hours.

Witnesses told State Police that the pickup truck was going about 60 mph at the time of the crash, and the driver made no attempt to stop or avoid the collision. Traffic was slowing in the area as three lanes merged into one due to construction in the area.

Indiana State Police say that 53 year old Richard Lee Bollinger from Missouri and another person were in the semi, and were unhurt in the crash. The truck was hauling 40,000 pounds of sugar, and the load was not compromised.
