Since 9/11, many Hoosier Guard and Reserve service personnel have served in the global war on terrorism. They are engaged around the world while also providing homeland defense. Their dedicated service is essential to our nation’s security. Each day employers like the Indiana State Police help these brave men and women maintain their commitment to the nation and our great state.

Recently, one such individual, Lt. Troy McElfresh, Commander of the Indiana State Police Capitol Police Division, was recognized by the Office of the Secretary of Defense for his support of SFC Shane LaMartz, who serves in the Army National Guard and is also a 10 year veteran of the Indiana State Police Capitol Police Division.

Officer LaMartz nominated him for the award stating that “Lt. McElfresh has always been supportive in my role as a citizen soldier. It’s been an easy transition both times coming back from deployment.”

Indiana National Guard Adjutant General Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger presented the award to Lt. McElfresh on Wednesday May 29th, at the Indiana Law Enforcement and Firefighters Memorial following the Indiana State Police General Headquarters Memorial Service.

The award recognizes “Lt. Troy McElfresh, Indiana State Police Capitol Police Section, as a Patriotic Employer for Contributing to National Security and Protecting Liberty and Freedom by Supporting Employee Participation in America’s National Guard and Reserve Force.”

Lt. McElfresh served six years in the Army National Guard and is a 22 veteran of the Indiana State Police Department. He lives with his wife in Muncie.
