July 16, 2013
Noodles and Company in Plainfield, IN will be hosting a fundraising event on Friday, July 26, 2013 to benefit Family Promise of Hendricks County. The event will run from 11:00am until 8:00pm and twenty five percent of the days proceeds will help to support this organization.
Family Promise of Hendricks County is a newly formed homeless initiative, the first of its kind in the County. There are no other shelter options for homeless families with children in Hendricks County. According to annual surveys, in 2012 there were 270 homeless families with minor children (135 school-aged children), a five percent increase from the previous year. Family Promise works to keep these families integrated into the community and most importantly keeps families together. Nationwide, one fifth of all children who are homeless are separated from their immediate family at some point.
The goal of Family Promise of Hendricks County is to open their doors of service to the County’s homeless families, the Day Center, at the beginning of 2014. The Day Center has showers, laundry facilities and storage space. It provides guests with an address and use of phones and computers to help them with job searches, as well as an opportunity for them to stay in touch with relatives and friends. It also has space for the children to play and do their homework. Several churches in the community will host the families during the evenings and overnight. A total of thirteen churches in the County are needed for the program, of which seven have already offered their facilities.
Donations can be made via the Family Promise of Hendricks County website, www.familypromisehendrickscounty.org, or through the Hendricks County Community Foundation.
