No Introductions Neccessary as Brownsburg and Avon Hook Up In Sectionals
October 29, 2010 No commentsRound 2 of the 2010 IHSAA football playoffs continues tonight as the Avon Orioles and the Brownsburg Bulldogs ratchet up their longtime rivalry with another sectional matchup at Roark Stadium at Brownsburg High School with the winner moving on to the sectional championship game.
Both schools took different paths to tonight’s game in their opening round matchups. Brownsburg overcame 5 turnovers, a missed field goal and extra point to erase a 21-0 deficit against Terre Haute South to win 28-21 in overtime.
Avon’s path was much easier as the Orioles score 4 rushing touchdowns in the first half while cruising to a 56-12 victory over Arsenal Tech.
The Orioles defeated the Bulldogs back on September 17th by the score of 38-17 to hand Brownsburg their first loss of the season. Avon enter tonight’s contest looking to repay the Bulldogs for last season when Brownsburg beat Avon twice including a 42-14 defeat in the sectional championship game.
Tonight’s matchup pits one of the best running games in the HCC in Avon’s Jordan Shirrell and their explosive running back Dominique Blackmon against a Brownsburg defense spearheaded by their excellent linebacking core of A.J. Akinribade, Bobby Carr, Steel Neese and Alex Mauck.
The winner moves on to face the winner of the Terre Haute North vs. Pike game for the Sectional 6 championship next week.
