• New ramps open Thursday at I-465/I-74/U.S. 136

The Indiana Department of Transportation has scheduled the opening of two new Interstate 74 ramps at the I-465/U.S. Highway 136 interchange. An eastbound I-74 off ramp to U.S. 136 will be opened to traffic Thursday night. At the same time, INDOT plans to put a new eastbound I-74 to northbound I-465 ramp in service.

Weather permitting, INDOT hopes to make two additional new ramps operational—one from northbound I-465 to U.S. 136, the other from U.S. 136 to southbound I-465—by the end of the month.

In all, ten newly constructed west side ramps should open this fall at the Speedway interchange.

On Friday morning, westbound Crawfordsville Road approaching I-74 will close to motorists at High School Road for 15 days. This will allow Walsh Construction, the state’s contractor, to move forward on three ramps crossing the existing roadway. Motorists are advised to circumvent the closure via High School Road north to the 38th Street interchange.

Bridge work is expected to continue this winter on I-465 structures spanning Big Eagle Creek and U.S. 136. Next spring, Crawfordsville Road is scheduled to be realigned from east of High School Road southward to U.S. 136 where I-465 and I-74 can be accessed. Existing pavement connecting Crawfordsville Road with I-74 will be removed.

The combined value of these construction contracts at I-74 and U.S. 136 is approximately $80 million.
