• New Principal Hired for Plainfield High School

    Plainfield Community School Corporation (PCSC) Superintendent Scott Olinger is excited to announce the hiring of Mr. Mel Siefert as the new principal of Plainfield High School. The PCSC Board of School Trustees approved the recommendation of the hiring committee on Thursday, May 2, 2013. The 17-member committee was comprised of administrators, school board members, teachers and parents.

    “We are looking forward to having Mr. Siefert on board,” says Supt. Olinger. “He has a variety of leadership qualities that will be an asset to our entire school community.” While Mr. Siefert won’t officially begin his position until July 1st, he will be highly visible over the next couple of months as he prepares for his new role. Siefert says, [he is] “excited about the opportunity to join the great staff at Plainfield High School in an effort to continue the tradition of success in preparing our students for an ever-changing world.”

    Mr. Mel Siefert graduated from Butler University in 1985 where he participated in football while earning a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education. In 1988, he earned a master’s degree in Educa-tional Counseling from Xavier University and continued his training at Xavier, earning his Secondary Administration certification in 2003.

    Siefert started his educational career at his alma mater, Batesville High School, as a member of the social studies department and later served as counselor, athletic director, and then assistant principal at Batesville Middle School.

    Mel was named principal at Batesville Middle School in 2009. During his tenure as principal, his students and staff achieved Four Star status in 2012 and earned a Grade of “A” from the Indiana Department of Education. In 2011, Batesville Middle School ranked #1 in the state in Science ISTEP, followed by a #1 ranking in 7

    th grade Math ISTEP in 2012.

    Siefert also led the Batesville basketball program to a record of 162-97 during his tenure as head coach, winning several championships including a state runner-up finish in 2004.

    Mel and his wife Amy are the parents of two children, Benjamin (26) and Lauren (21). Amy teaches Algebra and 8

    th grade math at Batesville Middle School. Ben graduated from Ball State University in 2010 with a degree in Sports Management and Marketing and currently owns his own sports apparel business. Lauren will graduate from Ball State University this spring with a degree in Family and Consumer Science education.
