National Powwow XV underway at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds in Danville.

The four day event includes exhibition and intertribal dancing each evening, many family-sponsored “special” dances and events, the first ever National Powwow Princess Contest, a Grand Parade around the powwow grounds, a re-created tipi village, dozens of educational seminars, one of the country’s most outstanding craft exhibitions and contests, quality food and craft vendors, and of course, exceptional singing by drum groups and singers from all corners of the United States.

The National Powwow XV theme is “The Future of Tradition”, and while the event often focus’ on honoring the elders, the attention turns this year to honoring the little people that dance and sing at the event. In keeping with the theme, National Powwow XV will host a children’s Discovery Area with kids’ activities throughout the event, including a kid’s- only powwow.

Daily entrance fees are $5 per adult, $2 12 and under, and children under 5 are free. Tickets may be purchased at the gate only.

The Powwow continues through Saturday with gates open from 8:00 AM through 11:00 PM.
