• Mud Hens Edge Tribe in Ten

    August 20, 2010 No comments

Left fielder Max Leon lined a game-winning RBI single to right field in the bottom of the tenth inning and the Toledo Mud Hens snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Indianapolis Indians with a 3-2 walk-off win over the Tribe on last night at Fifth Third Field.

With the contest tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the tenth inning, Leon stepped to the dish with the bases loaded and one out and laced a 2-2 pitch in to right field to plate 2B Justin Henry and give the Mud Hens the 3-2 win.

Before Leon’s extra-inning heroics, Brian Friday jump-started the Indians’ offensive attack in the third inning when the second baseman stole home with two outs to give the Tribe an early 1-0 lead.

Indianapolis’ lead was short-lived, however, as Toledo promptly tied the score at 1-1 in the home half of the third inning as C Max St. Pierre deposited the first pitch out to deep left field for his third home run of the season to erase the Mud Hens’ one-run deficit.

The contest remained tied until 1B John Bowker lined a two-out, run-scoring double to deep center field to give the Tribe a 2-1 advantage in the sixth inning.
Toledo erased its second one-run deficit of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning when DH Casper Wells came through with a two-out RBI double of his own to even the score at 2-2.

Neither starter figured in the contest’s final decision, as Indians’ RHP Mike Crotta allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings of work, while Mud Hens’ LHP Andy Oliver put up a near identical line, allowing two runs on five hits in seven strong frames.

Tribe reliever Brian Bass was strapped with his fourth loss of the season after allowing a run in the 10th inning, while Mud Hens’ RHP Casey Fien earned his second win of the year after working a scoreless inning in relief.

Indianapolis concludes its three-game series against the Toledo Mud Hens on Friday, August 20 at 7:00 p.m. RHP Jeremy Powell is expected to get the nod for the Tribe, while RHP L.J. Gagnier is the probable starter for the Mud Hens.
