A spilled shipment of crushed red pepper is responsible for sending 32 people to area hospitals. The incident occurred at the Amazon fulfillment center in the Air Tech industrial park in Plainfield this morning.  Fire officials believe that the red pepper had spilled from a previous shipment inside an arriving tractor-trailer.

Hendricks County fire officials categorized the incident as a mass casualty event although most of the injuries reported were considered minor ranging from eye and nose irritation to tightness in the chest.

A triage and decontamination area was set up in the Amazon facility where patients were tended to before being transported to local area hospitals.
