• Martinsville man arrested for false report

    April 20, 2012 No comments

An investigation has led to the arrest of a Martinsville man who contacted both the Mayor and the Chief of police of Martinsville, Indiana and stated a Martinsville city employee sexually battered a female at a local city restaurant.  39 year old Ryan Harmon made the allegation on February 21st of this year. City officials then provided this information to the Morgan County Prosecutor, Steve Sonnega.  Sonnega then contacted the Indiana State Police and requested an investigation of the alleged crime.

Over the course of the one month investigation it was determined the original complaint against the Martinsville city employee had no basis in fact and had been fabricated.  The results of the investigation were then submitted to the Morgan County Prosecutor.

After reviewing the investigation, Sonnega determined there was sufficient evidence to seek charges against Harmon for False Informing which is a Class “B” misdemeanor.

Harmon was arrested without incident yesterday in Martinsville near the courthouse square. Harmon was then transported to the Morgan County Jail.

Harmon was a 14 year former employee of the state police who resigned in lieu of termination after becoming the target of an internal investigation.
