A 46-year-old Indianapolis man was in critical condition Tuesday after being struck by a car Monday night on the Indianapolis’ far west side.

Emergency crews responded to the 8100 block of Rockville Road just before 8 p.m. Monday after an SUV struck the pedestrian, according to an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department report.

The SUV’s two passengers said they were driving westbound on Rockville Road and had just changed lanes to prepare to turn right onto Country Club Road. At that point, they said the man walked in front of them. The driver said he tried to brake but it was too late.

Both passengers said the man wasn’t wearing reflective or bright-colored clothing.

The victim, 46-year-old Thomas Mulinaro, was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition, and he remained critical Tuesday.

Police did not charge the driver, but took a blood sample to test for drugs or alcohol.
