Louisville starter Scott Carroll shut down the Indians offense for his first win in nearly two months, while first baseman Mike Costanzo homered and drove in two runs to lead the Bats past Indianapolis 6-2 last night at Victory Field and extended the Indians losing streak to five games.

Carroll did not yield a run in the first six innings of his outing, ultimately giving up just two earned runs on eight hits in his 6.2 innings of work to earn the win.

The Bats got off to a quick start thanks to Costanzo’s solo homer to right in the top of the first inning to give the Bats an early 1-0 advantage.

Louisville would plate two more scores in the fifth to increase the margin to three on a Kristopher Negron two-out two-run triple to left to push the score to 3-0.

After CF Denis Phipps tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Danny Dorn in the sixth, the Bats plated two more scores in the seventh to move ahead 6-0.

Carroll helped his own cause by leading off the seventh with a single, eventually scoring on Costanzo’s sacrifice fly to left.

The Indians did get on the board in the bottom of the seventh, as 2B Jordy Mercer and C Dusty Brown began the frame with back-to-back singles, before Mercer took third on LF Pedro Ciriaco’s fielder’s choice. Pinch hitter Andy Marte then scored Mercer with an RBI groundout, before Ciraco came plateward when CF Alex Presley singled to right to narrow the deficit to four.

Indians RHP Sean Gallagher was pinned with the loss after relinquishing three earned runs on just three hits in his five frames of work, while RHP Jared Hughes was solid out of the Indians bullpen, allowing just one run while striking out three in two scoreless innings of relief.

Indianapolis and Louisville complete their eight-game home/road series tonight, with first pitch set for 7:15 p.m. RHP Daryl Thompson is expected to get the nod for the Bats, while the Indians have not yet named a starter.
