• Long time Indy 500 staple will be missing from this year’s race

A familiar voice will be missing at this year’s Indianapolis 500.

Jim Nabors told officials at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway that he will be having heart surgery right before the race and won’t be able to fly in from his home in Hawaii.

Speedway spokesman Doug Boles said that the 81 year old Nabors was very disappointed by the timing, but said he expects to make a full recovery and attend next year.

IMS plans to send someone to Hawaii next week to record Nabors signing his trademark “(Back Home Again In) Indiana” to use in some way on race day.
