Starting pitcher Brad Lincoln limited Toledo to just one run on six hits in seven innings of work, while the Indianapolis Indians’ offense chipped in with three run-scoring doubles as the Tribe earned a 4-1 win over the Mud Hens on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Field.

Lincoln’s seven-inning effort improves his record to 7-3 on the season and gives the right-hander his first victory with the Tribe since the Pittsburgh Pirates optioned him to Indianapolis on July 27.

Tribe relievers Justin Thomas and Jean Machi set down the final six Mud Hens’ batters in order to preserve the Indians’ 4-1 win.

In support of their starter, the Indianapolis offense jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead with a two-out score in the top of the second inning. After 1B Jonathan Van Every singled to right field with two outs in the frame, 3B Doug Bernier lined his 10th double of the season out to left field to give the Tribe a one-run edge.

The Tribe later gave Lincoln a comfortable 3-0 cushion when they tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning on back-to-back doubles by C Erik Kratz and Van Every. Following a one-out walk by RF Mitch Jones, Kratz plated the Indians’ first run of the frame with a double off the wall in deep right center field, before he trotted home one batter later on Van Every’s ninth two-bagger of the season.

Toledo cut Indianapolis’ advantage to 3-1 in the home half of the seventh inning on a two-out base RBI single by 1B Michael Bertram.

Indianapolis regained its three-run advantage on a Toledo fielding error in the top of the ninth inning that allowed Pedro Ciriaco to score from third.
Mud Hens’ starter Charles Furbush who allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings of work was strapped with his third loss despite striking out a Triple-A season-high eight batters.

With the win, Indianapolis improves its record to 63-62 on the season. The victory is also the Tribe’s seventh consecutive win against the Mud Hens this season and gives the Indians a 9-8 edge in the overall season series.

Indianapolis continues its three-game series against the Toledo Mud Hens on tonight at 7:00 p.m. The Tribe has yet to announce a starting pitcher, while LHP Andy Oliver is the probable starter for the Mud Hens.
