• Lady Bulldogs snap streak against Giants

Brownsburg girl’s head basketball Coach Amy Brauman has watched her squads put together back-to-back successful campaigns including a 20 win season last year. But as successful as the past two seasons may have been for the Lady Bulldogs, a looming giant has awaited the Bulldogs in the sectional championship game the past two years. The giant in question has been the Giants of Ben Davis.

The Bulldogs have ended their past two seasons with a loss in the sectional championship game to Ben Davis and have lost seven straight to the Giants going back to 2004. Brownsburg played Ben Davis tough in the championship game last season taking a lead early in the fourth quarter only to watch Ben Davis pull way to a 55-42 win.

For the Giants, that victory continued a winning streak that would stretch to 81 games before being snapped by Carmel in the regional championship.

The number seven ranked Bulldogs looked to snap their own streak against the number three ranked Giants as they hosted Ben Davis Saturday night in the home opener at the Varsity Fieldhouse.

For the first half of the game, Ben Davis looked to be on their way to starting another winning streak as the Giants opened up 23-8 first half lead at one point before entering the locker rooms at halftime with 24-12 lead.

But Brownsburg battled back in the second half led by Stephanie Mavunga’s double –double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. The Bulldogs outscored Ben Davis 20 – 4 in the fourth quarter scoring 11 of their 20 points from the free throw line and Brownsburg snapped their seven game losing streak to the Giants defeating Ben Davis 46-39.

Kayle Comer scored 9 of her 11 points from beyond the arc and senior Allison DeVaney scored nine points including five of six from the free throw line. Mackenzie Trout scored five points and had 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Brownsburg’s next two games are on the road as they will play at Covenant Christian tomorrow night before opening up Hoosier Crossroads Conference play this Friday night at Avon.
