• ISTEP results for Danville Community Schools are mixed

The Danville Community School Corporation board heard results of ISTEP and course assessment exams from last school year during its meeting Monday.

Glenda Pate, director of special education and testing said, “The numbers jump all over the place”.

Fifth-graders showed overall improvement in both language arts and math from the previous year. Grades six through eight had the same result.

The percentage of freshmen passing the ISTEP dropped from 78 in the spring of 2010 to 75 this year.

More than just overall numbers, state education officials have added a growth model that tracks individual student results, not just how many passed assessments.

There’s still confusion with this data, however. Pate says the numbers she pulled up in June are different from the ones she accessed last month.

Pate is similarly frustrated that the state’s efforts to issue ISTEP scores sooner has still been slow. She said Danville didn’t get its results this year until a week after school ended.
