IMPD officials say an officer shot a suspect on Indianapolis’ west side yesterday afternoon.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said an officer shot a suspect in the leg after the suspect took aim at officers.

The shooting was reported at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of North Centennial Street.

Police said the incident began as a traffic stop in the 400 block of North Tibbs Avenue. The suspect fled, and shortly after both his 1980s-model Buick and an IMPD patrol car crashed into a house in the area, IMPD said. The suspect then ran off, and at one point aimed a gun at officers pursuing him. That’s when an officer shot him in the leg as they were in the middle of the street.

The suspect has been taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No one else was injured.
