• Indy 500 start time change?

    July 03, 2010 No comments

Indianapolis Motor Speedway CEO Jeff Belskus announced that the start time for next years Indianapolis 500 will likely change back to its traditional 11:00 AM start from the current 1:00 PM start. The move would allow drivers that wish to compete in both the 500 and NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte the opportunity to do so. Drivers such as Tony Stewart and John Andretti have both attempted the day long fete and it would likely lure a driver such as NASCAR’s Juan Pablo Montoya who was the 2000 Indy 500 winner back to Indy.

The idea gained momentum when Bruton Smith, CEO of Speedway Motorsports Inc., proposed putting up a $20 million bonus for any driver who could win both races on the same day.
