• INDOT hopes to open ramps in time for Thanksgiving

Indiana Department of Transportation officials have reported that as long as the weather cooperates, the last two ramps at I-465 and the Sam Jones Expressway will be receiving surface lifts of asphalt this Thursday, and then the final step before opening the ramps would be to mark the pavement.

That same process took place between I-70 and Kentucky Avenue, officially allowing it to be opened up to the public this past Sunday. INDOT’s Harry Maginity said, “All of the I-465 lanes from Kentucky Avenue to the 21st Street overpass have been completed and opened to traffic.”

The immediate goal for Thanksgiving is to have five additional ramps opened at I-74, U.S. 36, and I-465.

After the five ramps are hopefully open in time for the holiday season, INDOT has reported that the project will be down to three major tasks to officially complete.

The center median where U.S. 40 and the I-465 overpass meet will need to be completed, as currently concrete barriers will separate traffic from it. Work will proceed as weather allows.

Also, near I-465 and I-74/U.S. 136, center lane construction will proceed into the winter. Lastly, at the U.S. 40 and High School Road intersection, construction will continue come spring, with an eventual hope of having it completed sometime in the summer, possibly stretching into early fall.
