After a day off due to Tuesday night’s rainout, the Indianapolis Indians opened up their series with the Toledo Mud Hens yesterday with an early 10:30 in the morning game at Fifth Third Field.

Tribe pitcher Justin Wilson in just his third season of professional baseball after being drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 5th round of the 2008 draft, pitched six innings of shutout baseball giving up only two hits while striking out four as the Indians took game one of their four game series with a 4-2 win over the Mud Hens.

The Tribe left hander was staked to an early 1-0 lead when Indians designated hitter Andy Marte hit his second home run of the season with one out in the second off of Toledo starter Thad Weber.

Indianapolis tacked on two more runs in the sixth when second baseman Chase d’Arnaud hit his third double of the season and later scored on a Pedro Ciriaco RBI double to double the lead at 2-0. Ciriaco then stole third and came home on an Alex Presley sacrifice fly to give the Indians a 3-0 lead after five and a half innings.

The Tribe scored their final run in the eighth when Presley knocked in his second run of the game when his double to left field scored Corey Wimberly to make it a 4-0 Tribe advantage.

Indians reliever Daniel Moskos entered the game in the bottom of the eighth and saw the first two Mud Hens batters reach as Andy Dirks led off the inning with a single and Scott Sizemore doubled to put runners and second and third with nobody out. Dirks then scored on a Time Perez ground out and Sizemore scored one batter later on a Scott Thorman RBI single to make it 4-2 Indians lead. Tim Wood came on to relieve Moskos and struck out Danny Worth to end the Toledo threat. Wood got the Mud Hens out in order in the bottom of the ninth to record his first save of the season.

The starters were the pitchers of record as Wilson picked up his first win of the season to even up his record at 1-1 while Weber took the loss for Toledo dropping to 0-2 as he gave up three runs on five hits in seven innings of work.

Indianapolis and Toledo will now play a doubleheader, consisting of two seven inning contests today beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Mud Hens LHP Charlie Furbush and Indians RHP Brad Lincoln are the probable starters for game one, while Toledo RHP Chris Oxspring and Indianapolis RHP Jose Ascanio are expected to get the nod in game two.
