    August 05, 2011 No comments

After four nights of competition, ComedySportz Indianapolis took home the “meaningless cup” and the title of World Champions in improvisational comedy last week. Eighteen teams with 170 “actletes” from around the world participated in the tournament, which was held for the first time in Indianapolis.

Now in its 19th year in the circle city, the ComedySportz Indianapolis team includes more than 60 actletes, including co-owners Mia Bauman, Lynn Burger, and Ed Trout. Indianapolis played four tough matches against the teams from Manchester, U.K, and San Jose, Los Angeles, and the ComedySportz All Star Team, before making it to the final round. For the championship match, Bauman, Burger, and Trout, along with veteran ComedySportz player Claire Wilcher, took on the team from Washington DC. After two hours of comedic battle, Indianapolis sealed the victory, and the entire Indianapolis ComedySportz family flooded the stage to celebrate their historic triumph.

In addition to fierce competition every night, the ComedySportz World Championship also gave players the opportunity to network and attend improvisational workshops during the day. Top improvisers from around the world showcased their skills in presentations that were available to all attending performers.

ComedySportz is the longest-running show in Indianapolis, and matches can be seen at 7:30 p.m every Thursday and Friday, and 7:30 and 10 p.m. Saturdays at The ComedySportz Theater at 721 Massachusetts Avenue. All regular shows are interactive, fast-paced, and family-friendly competitive improv. Tickets range from $12 to $15 and can be purchased online at www.IndyComedySportz.com or by calling 317-951-8499. Custom-made ComedySportz performances are also available for all types of private and corporate functions, as are corporate team-building workshops.
