• Indiana State Police Will Be Towing Abandoned Vehicles

    January 31, 2011 No comments

Beginning immediately, January 31st, all vehicles left abandoned on any Interstate, State Highway or State Road in Marion, Johnson, Hancock, Hamilton, Boone, Hendricks, and Shelby Counties will be towed by troopers in anticipation of the upcoming snow and ice predicted for Tuesday, February 1st.

Lt. Pat Warczynski, Commander of the Indianapolis Post, has ordered all vehicles towed that are abandoned on these roadways to aid in the quick removal of snow and ice. When a vehicle is abandoned on the road side it makes it very difficult for a snow plow driver to be able to remove the snow and ice near the abandoned vehicle and creates a traffic hazard.

Usually abandoned vehicles are allowed to be left for up to twenty four hours before being removed. However, because of the predicted inclement weather the vehicles must be removed immediately.

This order will stay in effect until after the roadways are cleared and the abandoned vehicle would not be considered a traffic hazard.
