• Indiana covered bridge festival off to busy start

Store owners and vendors say big crowds made the trip to western Indiana for the opening days of this year’s Parke County Covered Bridge Festival.

This is the 55th year of the countywide festival that runs through Oct. 23, drawing tens of thousands of visitors on busy days to the county’s 31 wooden covered bridges and some 2,500 vendors who set up shop.

Kathy Collom of Collom’s General in Bridgeton told the Tribune-Star that the festival’s opening weekend was phenomenal and that crowds seem to be bigger than usual.

Brian Deblecourt had 10 vendors leasing space on Vigo County property his parents own along U.S. 41 several miles south of the Parke County line with long lines of cars driving past.
