Police arrested three men Monday night they said were in the act of robbing an Indianapolis Southwest side lawn care business.

One suspect was nabbed while running with a chainsaw and car battery toward a get-a-away vehicle, according to an Indianapolis Metropolitan police report. Another was found lying in a creek, trying to avoid a police tracking dog.

IMPD responded to a burglary alarm at 10 p.m. at TruGreen lawn care, 2121 Directors Dr., according to the report. A security official said he saw three men with masks running through the property.

When police arrived they found two men running toward a red Chevrolet pick-up truck parked outside the property. Those two, who are brothers, were quickly caught.

The third man was hiding in a creek, where a police dog found him. When he refused to give himself up, the dog bit him on the arm and held him.

Police say the men cut through a fence and tried to steal two saws, two batteries and two saw blades.

26 year old Charles Pumphrey and 28 year old Earl Pumphrey of Indianapolis were each preliminarily charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief.

30 year old Carl Ferguson was preliminarily charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
