The Indiana Ice announced that a pair of honors was bestowed to two of their veteran players in goaltender Casey DeSmith and defenseman Nick Mattson.

DeSmith received a double dose of good news as he was first named the USHL Goaltender of the Week after sweeping away 35 of 35 shots in the Ice’s 3-0 victory over Omaha on Sunday.

On a national note, the Ice increased their presence on the 2010 U.S. Junior Select Team as DeSmith and Mattson were selected for the roster and will join associate head coach Justin Lyle and director of team services Darrin Flinchem at the World Junior A Challenge November 8-14 in Penticton, B.C.

DeSmith will be making his first appearance on the squad, while Mattson earned a second consecutive selection.  Among goaltenders with five or more appearances, DeSmith is second in goals-against-average (1.67) and first in shutouts (2) and save percentage (.948)  Mattson, a 2010 NHL Draft Pick of Chicago, has two assists in seven games and is tied for first in the USHL with a (+6) plus/minus.
