Last week at the February meeting of the Hendricks County Tourism Commission the group welcomed new member Lee Tesdahl onto the overseeing body of the Hendricks County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Tesdahl is the owner/operator of Artistic Designs Gallery in Brownsburg, along with his wife Laura. He is a resident of Brownsburg, and comes to the Commission as the first member to serve that is affiliated with an art gallery.

Prior to his first meeting, Tesdahl was sworn in by County Clerk Cindy Spence. As the meeting got underway the new officers of the Commission took to the usual order of business. Presiding over the meeting was returning President Lewis White of Avon and Lew White Tours. Other Executive Committee members include Richard “Dick” Thompson of North Salem and representative from the Hendricks County Council as Vice President/President-Elect, Kent McPhail with the Plainfield Chamber of Commerce serving as Treasurer, Michelle Sieradzki of Avon, Director of Sales and Ticketing for Lucas Oil Raceway serving as Secretary and Lynne Fuller, Avon, President of F2/Inc., a tourism and economic impact consulting firm, as Past President. The report highlights the CVB’s marketing, group sales and community events programs for the year and also mentions some administrative and operational notes. Tourism business in Hendricks County continued to rebound in 2010 with increases over 2009 statistics, but not quite back to the 2008 numbers. Much greater increases online could be found with a 12.4% increase in the number of visits to the site and a 35.4% increase in the number of pages viewed.

The Commission includes nine members of the tourism community and all must be residents of the county. Seven of the nine members are appointed by the County Commissioners, and the Town of Plainfield appoints two of the members in accordance with the Indiana state statute.
