• HCCVB needs volunteers to welcome visitors

    March 07, 2012 No comments

The Hendricks County Convention and Visitors Bureau is seeking volunteers to join its 2012 “Destination Experts” team. The HCCVB developed the Destination Experts volunteer program two years ago to give local residents the opportunity to become welcome ambassadors at several signature events that attract visitors from outside the county. The success of this program enhances the quality of life in the community through tourism development and community education.

Destination Expert applications are now available at the HCCVB office in Danville or online under the Press Room menu at TourHendricksCounty.com. No previous experience is required.

“This has become such a wonderful program for Hendricks County, and an amazing opportunity for our volunteers to participate in some of our key events while getting to meet visitors who come to our county,” said Tracy Whetstone, community events manager for the HCCVB and manager of the program. “We want to thank all of our previous Destination Experts who have shared with our guests their own local favorite spots for dinner and made other suggestions on what do while in town.”

A couple of Destination Expert events already planned for this year include Civil War Days in June and U.S. Nationals on Labor Day Weekend. However, the HCCVB will need help with many other exciting events, and will reward volunteers with referral bonuses, preferred working hours and events and the opportunity to network and meet new people.

If you are interested in being a Destination Expert, contact Whetstone by e-mail at Tracy@TourHendricksCounty.com or call (317) 718-8750 to schedule a meeting. All interested volunteers should be a part of the application process in time for the “Spring Kick-off party” that is currently scheduled for Thursday, March 29th from 5:30 pm to 7 pm. During the party, volunteers will receive Destination Expert training; participate in a getting-to-know-you session; and get general questions answered by the HCCVB staff. All persons approved as volunteers for the 2012 event season will receive a Destination Expert package, which includes gear to wear as a member of the volunteer team.
