The Hendricks County Community Foundation was recently awarded a $9,600 grant which was made possible by the S.L. Gimbel Foundation Advised Fund at The Community Foundation Serving the Counties of Riverside and San Bernardino as part of their holiday food program. This winter has been one of the harshest Indiana has seen in most recent years making it difficult for food pantries to keep up with the need in the community to feed the hungry. This money will be used for the Hendricks County Food Pantry Coalition to purchase supplemental food products including: meats, fresh produce, breads, canned and dried foods.

HCCF Executive Director William Rhodehamel was thankful for the generosity of this grant, “It is powerful to see what a foundation based out of California is doing for us here in Hendricks County, Indiana. The generosity of the S.L. Gimbel Foundation Advised Fund at The Community Foundation Serving the Counties of Riverside and San Bernardino means that families here in Hendricks County can receive the food they need to feed their family. This grant is tremendously impactful for our county and greatly appreciated”.

The Hendricks County Food Pantry Coalition consists of nearly new two dozen organizations in Hendricks County united as a fund by the HCCF to serve two purposes: enhance the collaborative efforts of food pantries in the county to help meet basic nutritional needs of county residents who lack the financial resources to do so, and provide financial grants to families to meet immediate needs that cannot be met by other agencies within the county.

The Hendricks County Community Foundation works to improve the quality of life in Hendricks County by helping donors match their passion with community needs, awarding grants to nonprofit organizations and projects, and collaborating to address community issues. The Community Foundation manages assets of over $9.5 million in a collection of funds created by individuals, families, businesses and organizations for charitable purposes. In 2013, the Community Foundation gave over $930,000 in grants to charitable organizations and scholarships to local students.
