Indiana State Police troopers said a minivan stopped Wednesday morning for a traffic violation was carrying 75 pounds of marijuana in its gas tank.

Just before noon Wednesday, Senior Trooper Brad Smith stopped a 1998 Oldsmobile minivan on eastbound Interstate 70 near the 71-mile marker. While speaking with the driver, 38 year old Edgar Cornejo of McAllen, Texas, Smith suspected criminal activity and called Senior Trooper Greg Magee and his police dog to the scene.

A search of the vehicle revealed 80 packages of what appeared to be marijuana submerged in the fuel tank with the gasoline. The drugs, distributed in 75 packages, has an approximate street value of $75,000. Indiana State Police believe the drugs were destined for Toledo, Ohio.

Cornejo was arrested and preliminarily charged with dealing marijuana and possession of marijuana, both Class C felonies.
