    July 11, 2012 No comments

Five families lost their homes as fire quickly swept through their mobile home park in western Hendricks County overnight.

Around 12:15 AM, a resident of the Sti-Bel Mobile Home Park told dispatchers there was a fire in a shed that was close to one of the mobile homes.

The mobile homes are located just off US 40 near County Road 200 West near Clayton, Ind.

The fire spread quickly and arriving fire units called back to dispatch requesting additional units. Firefighters described the fire as very aggressive. As it continued to spread still more fire departments were called in to assist in battling the flames. In all fire units from nine fire departments were called to the scene. Included in that response were 5 water tanker trucks that continued to supply water to the fire trucks at the scene.

The responding fire departments included; Danville, Plainfield, North Salem, Amo, Liberty, Stilesville, Brownsburg, Morgan County, and Indianapolis Fire Department.

The additional manpower was needed since many of the fire departments rely upon volunteers and the remote area where the fire occurred required lots of water to be trucked in.

In all five mobile homes were damaged by the fire, two of them destroyed.

The residents were all able to evacuate safely. There are no reports of injuries.

Plainfield Fire Department will investigate to determine the cause of the blaze.

Red Cross was on the scene overnight to assist with shelter, food and clothing for the fire victims.
