• Festival Promotes Living a Well-Balanced Life

In today’s fast-paced world, work, family, school and other demands vie for our time and attention to point that we may feel like we’re struggling to maintain our equilibrium. And if a major life event, like a marriage, divorce, new baby or death, is thrown into the mix, we can quickly become stressed and lose our balance – wondering what we can do to set things right again.

The inaugural Balanced Living Festival and Expo offers people the opportunity to connect with businesses, organizations and experts who can help them achieve happier, healthier and more balanced lives throughout all of the areas of their lives – physical, mental, spiritual and financial. The expo will be held Jan. 31, 4 to 9 p.m. and Feb. 1, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds and Conference Complex, 1900 E. Main St.

“As a mom, I know how hard it is to balance work and family life,” says Becky Homko, event organizer and owner of Today’s Events and Business Services in Brownsburg. “You can feel like you’re constantly being pulled in different directions.

“So I wanted to help people connect with local businesses and organizations that offer the resources and services they may need to help them establish more balance in their lives,” she continues. “But living a balanced life means so much more than just being physically healthier, you also need to be mentally, financially and spiritually healthier, too.”

At the expo, people of all ages can participate in fun, interactive exhibits and activities that teach them how to achieve healthier lifestyles. Disc jockey T-Bone will provide entertainment. Plus attendees will have an opportunity to win prizes and participate in a silent auction.

While the event is free, donations will be collected to benefit Wish for Our Heroes, a national non-profit organization headquartered in Noblesville. Wish for Our Heroes grants wishes to active-duty members of the military and their families  to help relieve hardships they may face as a result of their military service, such as food, clothing and home and car repairs.

“We’re honored to receive donations from the Balanced Living Festival and Expo for our cause,” says Erich Orrick, vice president of Wish for Our Heroes. “Donations are truly our life source in assisting troops and helping us positively affect so many military members’ lives.

“It is individuals, not big corporations, which have funded Wish for Our Heroes, and consequently, have made lasting differences in peoples’ lives,” Orrick continues. “When someone donates to Wish for Our Heroes, 100 percent of their donation goes directly to a service member in need to grant their wish.”

The Balanced Living Festival and Expo is a great way to beat cabin fever after all of the cold and snow we’ve had so far this winter, says Homko.

“Families can enjoy some indoor fun at the expo, while learning how to make small changes that can bring a happier and healthier balance into their daily lives,” she adds.
