The former treasurer of the Glenns Valley Elementary Parent Teacher Association in Indianapolis was arrested on Friday for theft.

Candace Cadwell was arrested after a four-month investigation by the Indiana State Police Organized Crime and Corruption Unit for the misappropriation of funds.

Investigators were made aware of missing funds from Glenns Valley Elementary School PTA. The alleged crime happened over a two-year period from June 2009 to June 2011. Approximately $11,000 was found missing from PTA funds.

Charges were filed in Marion County and Cadwell turned herself in at the Marion County Jail, where she was met by an ISP detective.

Because of this theft, Glenns Valley Elementary had to cancel several annual events for the students because there were no funds.

The Indiana State Police Organized Crime and Corruption Unit encourages everyone keep good records of all financial accounts and documents to avoid becoming a victim of this type of crime.
