    March 21, 2011 No comments

Store owners are cleaning up after an early Sunday morning fire at a strip mall in Brownsburg. It started around 1:00 am Sunday morning on East Northfield Drive, where about a dozen businesses are located. A passerby saw the flames and called 911. Upon arrival crews found flames coming from the center of the building on the façade where the signage for the businesses is located.  Heavy smoke extended to both ends of the building.  The fire was upgraded to a second alarm fire at 1:50am.

Anytime Fitness which is located on the west end of the building was the only business with an occupant at the time, the occupant was informed by a passer-by of the fire and was able to evacuate without injury.  Crews were able to stop the fire from spreading to the interior of the businesses.

Brownsburg, Avon, Pittsboro and Wayne Township all responded to the fire.

No one was injured. Investigators say the fire started in a sign and then quickly spread to other businesses along the facade. Estimated damages to the building are around $300,000 but could grow higher as authorities await estimates from businesses on the smoke damages.
