Duke EnergyIndianapresented a check for $10,000 to the Cartlidge Barn Fund, a fund of the Hendricks County Community Foundation. This fund will help preserve the Cartlidge Barn which stood on the north side ofRockville Roadfor nearly 180 years.

The barn was on property owned byFlorenceand Harry Cartlidge. When the YMCA and Hendricks Regional Health acquired the property for their new state-of-the-art facility, a group of caringHendricksCountyresidents, including Cathy Cartlidge Mekel, began working to preserve the barn. The barn’s timbers and materials were donated to the Hendricks County Antique Tractor & Machinery Association and will be relocated to theHendricksCounty4-H Fairgrounds. The barn was meticulously disassembled and is being stored while money is raised to reconstruct the barn to its original specifications. The barn will eventually be used as an educational tool showing the Hoosier Pioneer way of life.

The Cartlidge Barn Fund was established at the Community Foundation to help assist this project. The Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization allowing donors to receive an income tax charitable deduction for gifts to the fund. Members of the Cartlidge Barn project are available to speak to organizations about the project. For more information or to donate, visit www.thecartlidgebarnfund.org.
