• Driving class in Avon aimed to educate teens

With automobile accidents being the leading cause of death for U.S. teens between the ages of 15 and 20, many people are looking to education to arm teen drivers.

One of these groups, the Mid-Ohio School, was at Avon Middle School North Wednesday to educate teens and give them some driving experience in a safe environment.

The program is designed to allow young drivers to experience various situations in a safe environment, so they’ll know how to react in similar circumstances on the road.

Key Bank started the program with Mid-Ohio School two years ago and began with a one-day trial in Columbus, Ohio. Last year, they did eight schools in Ohio and Indiana and this year, they’re doing 11 cities/towns in 14 days.

The course begins with some classroom work, but then gives participants an opportunity to apply it to the road course, where they’re given some situations to overcome.
