• Downtown Indianapolis fountains take steps to conserve water

    July 13, 2012 No comments

Several downtown Indianapolis fountains are taking steps to conserve water in light of the watering ban now in effect for Marion County.

The Indiana War Memorials Commission will shut down the four fountains it maintains including the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, University Park, Veterans Memorial Plaza and the USS Indianapolis CA 35 Monument on the Canal until water supply levels return to adequate levels.

Officials said each fountain will only run for approximately one hour per day to maintain water quality.

Shutting down the fountains is a voluntary move on the Commission’s part because the fountains are located on state property, which is exempt from the ban.
