DNR officers arrest man on theft and wildlife charges
December 23, 2011 No commentsIndiana Conservation Officers investigated a theft case that resulted in felony theft charges and numerous, misdemeanor wildlife charges. Officer Brent Bohbrink investigated the theft of over 50 deer hides from a licensed fur buyer located in Johnson County. Officer Bohbrink tracked the sale of the stolen hides to a licensed fur buyer in northern Indiana and developed a potential suspect. Officers interviewed 23 year old Shawn Kennedy of Trafalgar who confessed to the theft of the deer hides. During the interview the officers discovered that Kennedy had recently taken three, antlered deer unlawfully in Brown County. One deer was taken without a required license and two were taken from the roadway at night with a spotlight, all of which are violations of Indiana’s laws.
Charges will be filed in both Johnson and Brown counties. Kennedy’s accomplice 27 year old Shawn Wagers of Ninevah faces charges related to the theft. Indiana law requires the forfeiture of any equipment used in the commission of a wildlife crime.
