Window Zoo Cardboard BoxFurthering its reputation as an arts and culture destination, the Downtown Danville Partnership will host a new event this spring they are affectionately calling their Window Zoo, which will feature cardboard boxes as canvases.

Moon Stumpp, a local artist, came up with the idea for the juried exhibit and competition, which organizers hope becomes an annual event to showcase Downtown Danville and local artists. She then enlisted the help of the Downtown Danville Partnership, a non-profit organization dedicated to developing, sustaining and promoting Downtown Danville.

“We thought this was not only something that could further promote our local art scene, but that families and children would enjoy seeing and participating in as well,” said Christa Salyers of the Downtown Danville Partnership. “We think this can really be something different to market Danville and bring some life and interest to the few unused spaces we have around the Square.”

The competition is open to all ages and abilities. Those interested in submitting their own zoo-themed cardboard box artwork have until March 24. All four sides of the box must be covered, but only one side will be judged by three people who are well known in the Indiana art scene but live outside of Danville. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners.

An entry fee of $5 is required to be entered into the contest or $10 for up to three entries by the same artist. There is no entry fee for those who want to enter a piece but not compete.

Window Zoo entries will show up in Downtown windows beginning April 1 and will remain up through mid-May. Rules, entry forms, how to prep boxes and additional information can be found at www.DanvilleDoesArt.com.
