The Danville Fire Department responded to a residence fire in the 600 block of Green Valley Drive Tuesday.

No one was home at the time of the blaze, which started at about 6 p.m. Personnel with the Avon and Brownsburg fire departments also responded.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear of the residence. They were able to get blaze under control quickly. A dog that was in a kennel and a kitten found hiding under a bed were rescued with no injuries.

Officials believe the fire started in the attic, though the cause is still under investigation. Damage has been estimated at $50,000.
