• Cornerstone Christian Church Forming Adult Literacy Program

    Cornerstone Christian Church, in conjunction with Sheltering Wings and the Kingsway Community Care Center, are forming an Adult Literacy Program (ALP). This is a faith based initiative being formed to help residents of Hendricks County that are seeking help with literacy, computer and financial skills. All residents are welcomed, but the program will focus on adults in need. In addition to adult aid, there will be a peer teen mentoring section as well. Teens in need of help can receive tutoring from other teens.

    Being a faith based program, ALP will aid residents in need help understand their full potential by offering various reading and comprehension activities. The main focus will be on reading scripture from the Bible and discussing various verses and other Christian readings. In addition, there will be other readings provided to help develop vocabulary and comprehension skills. Computer skills will be developed in the core Microsoft programs of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access. Finally, there will be basic financial literacy offered to participants wishing to receive aid in this area.

    There will be an informational meeting for anyone wanting to participate or help on July 12th at 7 pm at Cornerstone Christian Church.
