CARMEL, In. – On Friday, May 22, Congresswoman Susan Brooks will serve as “Clerk for a Day” at Ricker’s Convenience Stores as part of the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) In Store program. The special event will take place from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Ricker’s Carey Road store located at 3334 E 146th Street in Carmel.

The nationwide program affords U.S. legislators the opportunity to gain knowledge and first-hand experience of the convenience and fuel retailing industry by allowing them to work at the front counter alongside employees. The goal is for the elected officials to return
to Congress with a better understanding of the industry and, consequently, be more equipped to make decisions about the legislation that greatly affects it.

“We are honored to be a part of the NACS In Store program and
are thrilled to welcome Congresswoman Brooks to our Carey Road store,” said company founder and Chairman, Jay Ricker. “We hope that she is able to leave with a new found appreciation of the convenience and fueling retailing industry and that, in general, this program will better connect our industry and Congress.”

During her time there, Brooks will begin with a tour of the store, including Ricker’s R-Burritos in-store restaurant and its frozen yogurt bar, R-Yogurt. Brooks will then undergo employee training where she will be stationed at the front counter and interact with customers as they check out.

“We are excited this program gives our staff an opportunity to meet their Congresswoman in person,” said Ricker. “She will also be able to interact with many of her constituents in a retail setting with whom she may not otherwise meet.”

According to NACS, 2.2 million Americans work in the convenience store industry and 160 million more pay a visit to convenience stores every day.

“The NACS In Store program gives elected officials the perfect opportunity to experience how these stores serve the public in their home districts,” said Henry Armour, NACS President and CEO.

NACS In Store program, returning for its second year, will take place in 20 convenience stores throughout the U.S.
