WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) today praised the announcement by Southwest Airlines that it is expanding service at the Indianapolis International Airport by adding new nonstop flights to Washington, DC’s Reagan National Airport beginning on November 2, 2014.

As a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, Coats has been advocating for additional air service on behalf of Indiana’s commercial airports.

“With this announcement, Southwest Airlines is acknowledging that Indiana is one of the most business friendly states in America and home to a vibrant, nationally-recognized airport,” said Coats. “A growing and competitive airline industry is one key to Indiana’s economic success, and today’s announcement is a win for both Hoosiers who travel and the city of Indianapolis.”

Indianapolis is America’s 11th largest city and the city hosts over 20 million visitors per year. The Indianapolis International Airport recently opened a new $1.1 billion terminal. The Indy airport also recently ranked number one in overall passenger satisfaction, according to a J.D. Power and Associates survey of the 64 major airports in the United States.
