• Coaches in Indiana Get A’s

    August 06, 2010 No comments

The NCAA Thursday released their first annual Academic Progress Report for coaches. The reports are a measure on how well students perform academically while playing for that coach. The scores are based on a year-to-year basis.

Butler coach Brad Stevens, Purdue’s Matt Painter and Notre Dame’s Mike Brey have all achieved the top score of 1,000 during the last 3 years with Butler’s Steven’s reaching the mark all three years he has been the head coach of the Bulldogs.

Indiana University’s Tom Crean’s average has been lower but much of that is attributable to taking over the program from former coach Kelvin Sampson who had scored an 811 his last year at IU. Since then, Crean has steadily brought IU’s score up to its current 975.

The report was designed to give students and parents more information at their disposal during the recruiting process. Reports are available for coaches in football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and men’s and women’s track. All information is readily available at the NCAA’s website at ncaa.org.
