• Christmas Gift & Hobby Show collects gifts for nonprofits Nov. 6-10

The 64th annual Christmas Gift & Hobby Show, Central Indiana’s largest one-stop Christmas shop, is asking shoppers to help give back to the community Wednesday, Nov. 6 through Sunday, Nov. 10 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds West Pavilion.

The show’s new initiative, Santa’s Give Back Program, will collect a variety of items based around local not-for-profit wishlists. Guests will receive a $3 off coupon at the door in exchange for a donation. The discount is based on the general admission price of $10, and is not valid with any other offer.

“The reality is not everyone can afford to put food on the table and clothes on their back,” said Donell Heberer Walton, executive director of HSI Show Productions.

“So with giving season upon us, you can show support for local children and families, the poor and even homeless pets, all who have different needs,” she said. “Every little bit helps and makes a difference!”

    Collection days include:

Wednesday, Nov. 6: New, unwrapped toy for Santa’s Elves of Indy, a volunteer group that provides Christmas gifts to children in need around Indianapolis and surrounding areas.

Thursday, Nov. 7: Bag of new socks for Gennesaret Free Clinics, a pillar in the community that serves the homeless and working poor with quality healthcare. Socks help prevent a wide range of foot ailments, and keep feet clean and dry.

Friday, Nov. 8: Three canned goods for Circle City Relief, an organization that creates a space to meet physical and spiritual needs of the poor by uncovering needs and unleashing resources through relationship building. Every donor will also receive a $1 off coupon for a Man-Can candle (an exhibitor within the show) made out of a recycled soup can that once fed the poor.

Saturday, Nov. 9: Three cans of cat/dog food, or a cleaning supply/dry food for Indianapolis Animal Care and Control and Cat’s Haven. Cleaning supplies include white vinegar, Lysol wipes, paper towels, all-purpose cleaner, box of large trash bags and even sponges.

Sunday, Nov. 10: Bag of gently-used clothing for Goodwill’s Project Collect & Connect Program. For every 13-gallon kitchen trash bag of clothes collected, Goodwill will give the show a $5 clothing voucher, which will be awarded to a Santa’s Elves of Indy family.

“I know people have at least a bagful of clothes collecting dust at home,” Heberer Walton added. “If they could just purge the closet a little before the holidays, it would help give a deserving family clothes for the winter.”

The Christmas Gift & Hobby Show features 350 exhibitors relating to art, music, hand-painted and personalized items, holiday and home décor, sports and collegiate memorabilia, books, jewelry, toys, apparel, designer-inspired accessories, fragrances, nostalgia collectibles, wine tastings and specialty food demonstrations.

Some new highlights include “Merry Merchant Markdowns,” State Farm’s daily gift-wrapping contests, Santa’s Elves of Indy coat check and gift-wrap station, and special visits with real reindeer.

Return favorites include $10,000 in Merry Money and prize giveaways for guests best portraying the holiday spirit, adoptable pets, dance and musical acts on the theater stage, local literati, visits with Santa and a Christmas Café & Libation Station.

    Show hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Advance tickets are $8 and available at all Central Indiana Marsh, O’Malia and MainStreet Market locations. Online discounted tickets are $8 with an active coupon code available on the show’s website.

Admission is $10 at the door for adults. Children 12 and under are free. Seniors age 65+ are $7 on Wednesday, Nov. 6 and Thursday, Nov. 7. Discount is not valid with any other offers. Veterans and active duty military are admitted free on Friday, Nov. 8 in honor of Veterans Day.

Parking is $5 in convenient, lighted Fairgrounds lots, with free shuttle service right to the West Pavilion doors.
