Mack Runyon and Matt Bowman pitched strong outings as the Brownsburg Bulldogs swept a Saturday double header against the Hamilton Southeastern Royals by the scores of 8-3 and 4-3 at Rose Park.

The Bulldogs and Royals were rained out Friday afternoon in a game scheduled to be played at Hamilton Southeastern. That game was made up after the regularly scheduled game played at Rose Park at Brownsburg High School Saturday morning.

Right handed senior pitcher Mack Runyon pitched five strong innings in game one holding the Royals to two runs while scattering six hits. Levi Slawta came on in relief in the bottom of the sixth to close out the game.

Brownsburg jumped on the Royals quickly in the home half of the first inning as CF Jeremy Jones led off the Bulldog first with a home run to left to give Brownsburg a quick 1-0 lead.

Hamilton Southeastern would answer Jones home run in the top of the second inning when Sean Green led off the Royals second with a home run of his own to tie the game at 1-1.

But the Bulldogs went right back to work in the bottom of the second as 1B Bobby Carr led off with a walk and 2B David Oliger followed with a double to put runners at second and third. One out later, catcher Tyler Hampton drove in Carr with a sacrifice fly to center. Bulldogs designated hitter John Moore stepped up to the plate and delivered a two run homer to give Brownsburg a 4-1 lead.

Brownsburg added two more runs in the third inning as RF Tyler Whetstone and SS Isaac Sampen started the inning with back to back singles. LF Tyler Owensby was then hit by the first pitch he saw from Royals starting pitcher Jacob Kowal to load the bases. One batter later, Oliger drew a bases loaded walk to drive in Whetstone and Sampen would score on a Kowal wild pitch to increase the Bulldog lead to 7-1.

Brownsburg scored a run in the fourth on Jones’ second home run of the game and would tack on one more in the sixth when Jones’ RBI single drove in Moore for the final Bulldog run of the game.

The Royals added a run in the sixth and one more in the seventh but Slawta induced Royals 3B Sean Davis in to a game ending come backer.

Runyan picked up the win for Brownsburg while Kowal took the loss for Hamilton Southeastern.

In game two, Brownsburg was designated the visiting team in the makeup game and once again used a three run second inning to jump ahead of the Royals.

The Bulldogs sent eight batters to the plate as Bobby Carr led off the inning with a home run to right to plate the first run of the game. Tyler Hampton drew a two out walk and would come home on DH John Moore’s RBI double. Moore would later score on a Tyler Whetstone RBI single and the Bulldogs held a 3-0 lead after an inning and a half.

Hamilton Southeastern starting pitcher Steven Curry led off the home half of the second inning with a solo shot to center to close the gap to 3-1.

It would stay that way until the top of the sixth when Moore hit a solo home run to left to increase the Brownsburg lead to 4-1.

Bulldogs starter Matt Bowman cruised through the middle inning s and for the game set the Royals down in order in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings while striking out five and walking only one.

Bowman would run in to some trouble in the bottom of the seventh with the Bulldogs holding on to a 4-1 advantage when Curry lead off the seventh reaching on a fielding error by Brownsburg LF Tyler Owensby.
