The Brownsburg Bulldog baseball team have claimed their first sectional championship since 2005 as they defeated Avon in the Class 4A Sectional 12 championship game Monday evening by the score of 15-5 to move on to in the IHSAA baseball tournament.

After receiving a first round bye, the Bulldogs opened up sectional play against Ben Davis. The Bulldogs defeated the Giants 19-6 in six innings earlier in the season and their sectional rematch was once again a high scoring affair.

Brownsburg plated the first two runs of the game in the top of the first but the Giants would respond with one of their own to make it a 2-1 Bulldogs lead after one inning.

After a two run Bulldogs second inning, the Giants scored four times to lead 4-2 after two innings.

The Bulldogs came back in the third to plate three more runs and after a run scoring bottom of the inning for Ben Davis the game was tied at five.

The lead would pass back and forth until the sixth inning when Bulldog catcher Tyler Hampton smacked a three run homer to put the Bulldogs up for good at 13-11.

Brownsburg blew the game open in the top of the seventh when eight Bulldog batters crossed the plate to put the game away with Brownsburg winning 21-12.

The Bulldogs had a much easier going in the sectional championship game against the host Avon Orioles as the Bulldogs once again jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first inning but would never trail in the contest. Brownsburg scored two more times in the third and extended their lead to 9-1 after four innings with a five run fourth.

Avon finally touched up Bulldog starter Isaac Sampen with a four run fifth inning but the Bulldogs ace left the game with a six run cushion allowing five runs but only one earned run in four and two-thirds innings striking out 6. Sampen also helped his own cause by hitting his team leading thirteenth homer of the year as the Bulldogs cruised to the 15-5 championship victory.

The Bulldogs return to Avon Saturday morning to begin regional play as they will play in game one against Indianapolis Cathedral at 10:00 AM. The winner will move on to face the winner of the second regional game between Westfield and Whiteland. The championship game is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
