• Bulldogs and Orioles Set for Rivalry Game

    September 17, 2010 No comments

The Avon Orioles visit Roark Stadium tonight hoping to knock off Brownsburg and propel themselves back in to the race for a Hoosier Crossroads Conference championship.

But that task won’t be easy as the Bulldogs enter tonight’s game in first place in the HCC standings and are ranked 5th in the state according to the AP poll and 3rd in the Sagarin Rankings.

Brownsburg is 4-0 on the season and come off a 34-13 victory over Westfield last week. The Bulldogs needed a strong second half to defeat the Shamrocks as Westfield led 7-6 at the half and if not for a Logan Williams interception returned for a touchdown to end the first half, the Shamrocks could have led 7-0.

But Brownsburg scored 28 unanswered points in the second half led by Isaac Beverstock’s two touchdowns to pull away and remain undefeated.

Avon enters tonight’s game 2-2 coming off a 41-38 loss to Fishers in double overtime.  Avon had a 31-17 lead late in the third quarter before Fishers scored twice to tie the game and send the game in to overtime and before eventually winning the game on a 22 yard field goal in the second overtime.

Over the last 15 years, the Orioles have led this long time rivalry going 10-8 but the Bulldogs defeated the Orioles twice last year including a 42-14 sectional win on their way to a sectional championship.
