• Bulldog baseball wins 8th in a row over Westfield

    Brownsburg scored in every inning collecting ten hits and capitalizing on five Westfield errors as the Bulldog varsity baseball team ran their winning streak to eight games beating the Shamrocks 17-3 in five innings last Friday afternoon at Shamrock Park at Westfield High School.

    Brownsburg, for the second game in a row against Westfield, scored 4 runs in their half of the first inning that began with leadoff batter Jeremy Jones reaching safely on a Shamrock throwing error and capped off by a Jason Catron two run double off of Westfield starter Eddie Tomich,

    The Bulldogs tacked on another run in the third when Jones once again led off the inning on a single to left and came around on starting pitcher Isaac Sampen’s RBI single to left to give Brownsburg a 5-0 lead.

    The Bulldogs would blow the game wide open in the third inning scoring six runs on onl3 three hits while Westfield committed three errors. Designated hitter John Moore had a key two run double as the Bulldogs sent ten men to the plate and took a commanding 11-0 lead after two and a half innings.

    Brownsburg kept their foot on the gas pedal by scoring five more times in the fourth inning as Westfield pitching walked four Bulldog batters, hit a batter and Sammy Sampen connected on a two run double off of reliever Scott Ramey to put Brownsburg out in front 16-0.

    Westfield collected their first runs of the game off of Bulldog starter Isaac Sampen in the bottom of the fourth inning. The first runs Sampen had given up in over two games. Tomich drove in Andrew McCafferty with an RBI single and would come around to score himself on a Bulldog throwing error to make it a 16-2 Brownsburg advantage heading in to the fifth inning.

    Ted Kackowski scored the final run for Brownsburg in the fifth when he scored on a Sammy Sampen sacrifice fly to center. It was Sammy Sampen’s third RBI of the game and Kackowski’s fourth run scored of the game as Kackowski reached base and scored in each of his four plate appearances.

    Sammy Sampen relived his brother Isaac in the bottom of the fifth as Westfield tacked on a run but no more as Sampen struck out Tomich to end the game in five innings by run rule.

    Isaac Sampen picked up the win pitching four innings giving up two runs, both unearned, on four hits while striking out two and walking only one. Shamrocks starter Tomich took the loss for Westfield.

    The win improved the Bulldogs record to 10-3 on the season and 7-1 in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference. Brownsburg is currently in second place in the conference behind Zionsville.

    The Bulldogs begin a two game series against the Avon Orioles this afternoon at Rose Park, weather and field conditions permitting, before travelling to Avon tomorrow afternoon. Both games are scheduled to start at 5:30 PM EDT and can be hear right here on XRBradio.com.
