• Brownsburg’s Christy Headed to University of Florida

Last year, the Brownsburg Bulldogs football team had a very successful season culminating in a 2009 Sectional Championship. Brownsburg was helped in no small part by their kicker Kyle Christy . Christy showed an impressive leg place kicking for the Bulldogs last year as he was perfect on the season within 40 yards and boomed several field goals from beyond that range. He also excelled in his kick-off duties regularly booming his kicks well in to the end zone for touchbacks. That kind of range and accuracy was noticed by several large schools and it was announced that Christy had accepted a scholarship to play for Urban Meyer and the University of Florida on Monday.

Christy will be a senior this year for the Bulldogs and said he wanted to make the decision on where he would continue his kicking career out of the way so he could focus on his senior season with the Bulldogs. The Gators were not the only school to come calling on the 6’1 165 pound Bulldog kicker as Kyle was also entertaining an offer from the LSU Tiger’s head coach Les Miles.

Kyle handled all of the place kicking duties last season for the Bulldogs and shared the punting duties with Gus Ervin. With the loss of Ervin due to graduation, it is expected that Christy will take over the punting duties full time this season and become Bulldog head coach Brett Comer’s primary kicker in all phases of the game.

Christy becomes the second member of last year’s sectional championship squad to accept a football scholarship. Wide receiver Charles Torwudzo (Torr-Wood-Zō) signed with Danny Hope’s Purdue Boilermakers where he will be a freshman on this year’s squad.

The Bulldogs will open up the 2010 football season at the McCutcheon Mavericks on August 20th.
